New Publications

1.       Impact of pre-operative antimicrobial treatment on microbiological findings from endocardial specimens in infective endocarditis (Halavaara et al. 2019)

In their study, Halavaara and colleagues compared the findings of valve culture and 16S rRNA PCR from patients with suspected infective endocarditis regarding the pre-operative antibiotic treatment and the impact of its duration. DNA isolation was done with EasyMag (BioMérieux) at the early stage of the study and was then switched to the SelectNA™plus (Molzym) followed by 16S rRNA PCR. For patients with less than two weeks antimicrobial treatment, 91% of PCR runs were positive and 41% of the cultures. On contrary, for patients with more than two weeks antimicrobial treatment, all valve cultures were negative and PCR was positive in 53%. From negative blood cultures, PCR could detect the pathogen in 77%. In conclusion, PCR aided diagnostics particularly when culture remained negative.

2.       Technical Information SelectNA™plus – Automated Host DNA Depletion and Microbial DNA Extraction

Molzym’s MolYsis™ technology is successfully used in research and clinical diagnostics for many years now. The technology for human DNA depletion prior to microbial DNA isolation is especially valuable for samples with a low load of microorganisms. To reduce the hands-on time and simplify the process for routine laboratories, Molzym automated the whole process, providing the best conditions for molecular analysis without limitations through contaminations. This technical information gives a deeper insight on the characteristics, technology and applications of the SelectNA™plus robot.
